Cancellation and Refund Policy

Qantas provides flexible cancellation and refund options, ensuring convenience for its passengers. Below are the key points of their policy:

Cancellation Policy

24-Hour Cancellation Rule

Qantas allows passengers to cancel their booking within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund, provided the flight was booked directly with Qantas and departure is at least 48 hours away.

Non-Refundable Tickets

Most Economy Sale and Saver fares are non-refundable after the 24-hour cooling-off period. If you cancel, the value of the ticket may be forfeited, or in some cases retained as a travel credit after deducting applicable cancellation fees.

Refundable Tickets

Flex, Premium, Business, and First Class refundable fares may be canceled before departure for a full refund to the original form of payment. A service fee may apply depending on the route and fare conditions.

Reward Bookings

For Classic Reward tickets, you may cancel your flight and receive your points back, minus a cancellation fee.

For Points Plus Pay bookings, cancellation rules follow the fare class purchased.

How to Cancel

You can cancel your booking by visiting the Manage Booking section on the Qantas website or mobile app. Enter your booking reference to review fare rules, cancel, or request a refund or credit.

Refund Policy

Eligibility

Refunds depend on the fare type purchased. Refundable tickets receive money back to the original payment method, while non-refundable fares may only receive a travel credit.

Airline-Initiated Cancellations

If Qantas cancels your flight or makes a significant schedule change you do not accept, you are generally entitled to a full refund, even on non-refundable fares.

Processing Time

Most refunds are processed within 15 business days, though timelines may vary based on payment method and request volume.

Baggage Fees

If the flight is canceled by the airline:

The airlines will refund prepaid baggage fees automatically or allow you to use the credit on your rebooked flight. You can usually request a full refund through the airline’s website or customer service.

If you cancel the flight yourself:

Prepaid baggage fees are often non-refundable, unless you booked a refundable fare or the airline’s policy explicitly allows it.
