Passengers traveling with United Airlines are welcome to bring the following:

Carry-on Baggage

Most United Airlines passengers are entitled to bring one carry-on bag plus one personal item free of charge. The standard carry-on bag must fit in the overhead bin and not exceed 22 in x 14 in x 9 in (56 cm x 35 cm x 23 cm).

The personal item (e.g., laptop bag, purse) must fit under the seat in front of you.

Note: On Basic Economy fares, especially on domestic U.S. routes, a standard carry-on bag may not be included, only a personal item is permitted unless on certain international routes.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Checked baggage allowances with United depend on fare type, cabin class, route and MileagePlus status. For standard Economy bookings on many domestic routes, passengers may have no free checked bag; on others, one or two bags may be permitted.

For bags included:

• Economy / Premium Economy: typically up to 50 lbs (23 kg) per bag.

• Business / First / Polaris: up to 70 lbs (32 kg) per bag.

All checked bags must usually conform to the size limit of 62 inches (157 cm) total (length + width + height).

Extra Baggage

Bags that exceed the allowed number, weight or size will incur excess, overweight or oversized bag fees based on route and ticket type.

Fees vary widely depending on destination and whether pre-payment online is possible.
