Cancellation and Refund Policy

United Airlines provides flexible cancellation and refund options, ensuring convenience for its passengers. Below are the key points of their policy:

Cancellation Policy

24-Hour Cancellation Rule

Passengers can cancel their ticket for a full refund within 24 hours of booking, provided the flight is at least 24 hours away.

Non-Refundable Tickets

Outside the 24‑hour grace period, non‑refundable fares generally do not qualify for cash refunds. Instead, the value is often issued as a travel credit (minus any cancellation or change fees). Basic Economy fares have the most restrictions and may not be eligible for changes or refunds outside the 24‑hour window.

Refundable Tickets

Tickets purchased as refundable fare types can be canceled at any time before departure and will receive a full refund via the original payment method, with no cancellation fee.

How to Cancel

Visit the Manage Reservations section on United Airlines’ website or mobile app.

Enter your booking details to cancel or change your flight.

Refund Policy

Eligible Refunds

When eligible, refunds are processed back to the original form of payment. For credit card purchases, refunds typically take about 7–10 business days, and may take longer for other payment types.

Baggage Fees

If the flight is canceled by the airline:

The airlines will refund prepaid baggage fees automatically or allow you to use the credit on your rebooked flight. You can usually request a full refund through the airline’s website or customer service.

If you cancel the flight yourself:

Prepaid baggage fees are often non-refundable, unless you booked a refundable fare or the airline’s policy explicitly allows it.
