Itami Airport (ITM) was Japan's 3rd busiest airport and the Kansai region's busiest airport before Kansai International Airport (KIX) started it operation on 2006. In 2015, Itami Airport had 139,450 aircraft movements, serving 14,541,936 domestic passengers and carrying 140,668 metric tons of freight cargo.

Itami Airport continues to handle a large number of domestic flights to more than 30 destinations around Japan. The airport is served by JAL and its subsidiary airlines, ANA and its subsidiary airlines, Amakusa Airlines and IBEX Airlines.
